S N A P - S H O T S from the PROCESS of RESTORATION BURROUGHS CLASS-1 ADDING / BOOKKEEPING MACHINE The "BURROUGHS-LOCK" was removed - NO KEY necessary! BUT HOW to lift the GLASS-COVER ??? [1st] The "PRINTING-LEVER" has to be unhooked from back side ... ( This is possible when the crank is pulled & hold !)  [2nd] Push the CRANK backward and pull it out of its axle. Now lift the GLASS-COVER. The PRINTING-UNIT is REMOVED because RUST & MISSING PARTS. After Cleaning & Oiling !LOOK! at this beautiful "Piece-Of-Engineering" ...      The DISPLAY (= SubTotal ) shows 7 DIGITS ...  BUT behind the cover are 9 FIGURE WHEELS ...  ... The RIGHT 7 DIGITS show the CONTENT of the ARITHMETIC UNIT The LEFT 2 I N P U T FIGURES are used for printing an ID The MISSING REPEAT-Key ...  ... is home-made out of a CABLE CLIP soldered on a BRASS WASHER, glued on a PLASTIC CHIP and covered by an INSULATION PIPE ...   The STAND has down a HANDLE to choose ...  either movable ON ROLLERS or FIXED ...   The HINGE of the DOCUMENT-HOLDER was broken - Now HOME-MADE with a circular sheet-metal to cover the damaged wood area ...   BELL & HAMMER of the PRINTING UNIT is missing ...  ... the "Paper-End"-BELL can be made out of a LADLE ... PARTS of the the missing/broken HAMMER ...  Now soldered a STEEL WIRE with a (tmp.) PUSH-PIN-TIP ...  ... and this is a DETAIL VIEW of the restored unit ...  ... Later the PushPinTip was replaced by a METAL BALL The SCALE was loose & warped and had to be flattened by using an electric iron with low temperature - than glued in place.
