Due to the WOODEN BOX, the MANUS »D« came in clean conditions,
BUT ...
o Carriage was not full movable to the left
o Arithmetic and Counter not to delete
o ADD/SUB Switch not working, blocked on SUB
o The ADD/MULT-Turn not working, blocked on ADD
o The ADD/MULT-Button broken
In the repair procedure came out, that some
o Levers were bent,
o Joints and sub-modules wrong or not assembled
o Missed part replaced wrong
( Horizontal needle in ADD/MULT-Turn too long )
o Washer under carriage FF-Cover missing
( Reason for frictions in carriage movement )
After a day & night work: All functionality restored !!!
Procedure of the ADD/MULT BUTTON repair:
(1) Made a stabilizing ring from black plastic insulator pipe
(2) Parts are treated with 2-Component-Glue
and folded back in position inside the ring
(3) All filled with 2-Component-Glue
(4) After hardening time,
drilled the vertical & horizontal holes ...
The WOODEN BOX needed extra care ...
o Back side broken - had to be glued
o Missing distance piece - had to be made
o Locks & hinge strip rusty - WD-40 applications
o and after all: Wood-Oil treatment
... AND NOW: The set is a jewel in the collection!

R E M A R K : "It is the PURPOSE OF THE COGBAR IN THE BASE to
============= set the carriage right for clearing arithmetic
unit in all positions - BUT - It doesn't work
for all possible conditions and positions ..."
CLEARING ARITHMETIC UNIT IN ALL POSITIONS IS A TIMING PROBLEM !!!
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Pressing the right clearing lever has to activate ...
(1st) The Carriage has to be shifted to the right, to
disconnect the arithmetic unit from its input-cogwheels
(2nd) The reset of the arithmetic unit has to be performed
There are two critical characteristics of the COGBAR ...
( A ) THE SLOPE / EDGES OF THE TIPS
( B ) POSITION OF THE COGBAR ( NOT ADJUSTABLE !!! )
With a grinder I smoothed all slopes - But more difficult:
To bring the cogbar 1 mm higher and 1 mm to the right ...
( a ) The horizontal pin-holes are filed oval to the left.
( b ) Horizontal pins are removed in order to lift the cogbar
(Because the cogbar is hardened, filing is impossible)
For durability, the open oval spaces beside the screws are
filled with a piece of copper wire.
After "iterative tuning" the full functionality is now achieved !
RESULT: The cogbar was a weak point in the design of model »D«
------- and was discontinued in the following model »E« serie.
